From Wikipedia:

Sayulita, a village about 25 miles north of downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Known for its consistent river mouth surf break, Sayulita was “discovered” by roving surfers in the late 1960s with the construction of Mexican Highway 200.

Today, Sayulita is a prosperous growing village of approximately 6,000 residents. Hailed as a popular off-the-beaten-path travel destination, Sayulita offers a variety of activities such as surfing, paddle boarding, horseback riding, hiking, jungle canopy tours, snorkeling, fishing, and nearby attractions. Still, a mecca for beginner surfers of all ages, the quaint town attracts upscale tourists with its numerous art galleries and restaurants as well.

Sayulita has a curious eclectic quality, frequented by native Cora and Huichol peoples, traveling craftsmen as well as international tourists, and community. Sayulita is the crown jewel in the newly designated “Riviera Nayarit”. Its natural beauty and easy access to Puerto Vallarta have made Sayulita real estate some of the most sought after in all of Mexico. With growing ecological awareness and stricter zoning enforcement, development is being regulated to help safeguard the environment and quality of life of the community. Sayulita now has a medical office with an English-speaking doctor and pharmacist, a number of Internet cafes and a wide variety of open-air eateries—some right on the sand beach.

Sayulita has recently become a wedding destination with a Roman Catholic Church and a number of local wedding planners.

From Our Perspective:

We simply love this “little” town, its been welcoming us for many years and we’ve seen its growth; we’ve heard people say that now that it is bigger it’s better than before, and sometimes we hear the exact opposite.

Either way, at the present time we really love it very much!!

It is amazing how many travelers have come and stayed for life, and this has given Sayulita it’s best… We have people from so many different cultures, good art, and cuisine, a perfect mix from the street tacos to the gourmet restaurant… We have it all.

Sayulita it’s well known to be relaxed in almost every way, and in many ways, it is still a very small town; sometimes we even run out of electricity for many hours… But still, you can find lots of restaurant’s, bar’s and ever after parties!

And of course, surfing… In every aspect, Sayulita it’s still a surfing village with many nearby breaks.

General Tips:

We feel like Sayulita it’s VERY safe, however as almost any other city or town in the world, we don’t recommend you to walk alone very late at night… If you are going to an after party, had much to drink or so, try always to be accompanied by one; especially for a woman, it’s always best to not be by yourself in dark streets…

– Watch for Rip Currents and read the signs.
– Some ATM’s gives you dollars and some pesos, either way, the exchange rate it’s not so great but its better than paying with dollars in stores or restaurants.
– Surfers: Avoid arguing with local’s, especially at the surf break; they will always “be right” and not you. So try to avoid aggressive surfers that are around.
– Watch out for the “Montezuma Revenge” it’s just a saying for stomach sickness if you are going to eat fresh seafood, make sure it has not been long exposed to sun or day heat. In our opinion, keep away from walking seafood vendors.
– Drugs of any kind are not legal in Mexico if we surprise people carrying or consuming inside the hotel, it’s our responsibility to advise the corresponding authorities.

Emergency Information:

For ANY emergency, we can help you at our Hotel front desk, but in case you are not around or feel like doing so your self.

For ALL EMERGENCIES including Fire, Ambulance, Accident, Health Issues and assaults Call: Policia Sayulita Station: 3292913890. If no one picks up, leave a message and immediately call the Nayarit State Emergency number: 066. A dispatcher will send your call to a nearby Police car from this number, and they will contact the correct services for you. NOTE: The Fire + Ambulance building is directly next to Police station, so they will be notified if they are needed in addition to Policia.

Our Hotel:

Again, thank you for being here!! You are the most important part of our hotel, and we want you to spend the best possible vacation here in Sayulita…

Most of our staff don’t speak English or very little, but you would be amazed of how much can they understand guest’s needs; so please don’t hesitate to ask them anything you might need… However, during office hours we have some manager on sight or at the front desk that will be able to help you with almost anything you need, so please let us know.

In case we forgot to tell you, we do have FREE Wi-Fi access… Network: GoSayulita.com Password: Sayulita2015

If you see something that it’s not working properly or feel like something it’s missing, please let us know soon; most probably we will be able to fix it right away… Keep in mind that this is a Hotel in Sayulita, sometimes Sayulita goes out of electricity for hours and there is not much we can do about it since it’s gone in probably 50% of town maybe more.

We have a small safe in every unit; please use it… And don’t leave personal belongings unattended, especially in common areas. It’s recommended to keep passport and values inside the safe; you don’t need it around town…

We have a roof terrace with Jacuzzi and BBQ place for you to use freely, please let us know sometime before using it so it’s warm and ready for you. We do have some hours and regulations to keep our place quiet and relaxed for everyone.

The beach gate it’s closed every day sometime after sunset when the daylight it’s gone. We have a security night guard walking around common areas and the Street door it’s always open.

We only have 7 places for parking (excluding the management place), so whoever gets the place first get’s it for that period of time, please don’t put your car in other people’s way and park in the street, it’s pretty safe too…

Our beach chairs and umbrellas are for guest’s only, use them freely as you want.

We have books at the reception, if you start one and didn’t finish it, you can take it home with you so you can finish it later… And also you can leave any book you have finished during your vacation.

Please read our hotel policies and rules written down in your registration card that you have signed during check-in, if you want we can give you a copy of it…

Things to do:

– Right outside our hotel, in the street, if you walk north (opposite to town)… After a few blocks the road ends and you can start your hike right there, its beautiful and you can feel the jungle right at your fingertips; just remember to carry water and something for the mosquitos. This “little” hike can take you all the way to San Pancho, and a “virgin” beautiful beach… Enjoy, and please let us know how was it!!

– Also if you walk south by the beach, you can get to “Playa Los Muertos” or Beach of the death… It’s called like that because there it’s a cemetery almost right on the beach. You can get there by walking all the way until the beach ends and then take the road like two blocks and you are there!! If you take your shoes you can keep on walking on the ocean rocks and there is lot’s for you to find out.

– Take a Paddle Board lesson? It’s not so hard, its fun and you can move “long” distances around Sayulita. But please use organic sunscreen.

– Surf, of course… You can rent a surfboard in town and even get some particular classes.
– We have few zip lines only 5 minutes away from Sayulita downtown; it’s worth checking out.

– Depending on the season, you could go whale watching by boat. Or to the Marietas Island’s and Playa del Amor; a beach inside the island that you can only get in by snorkeling… VERY famous…

– Ready for Mountain biking, you wouldn’t believe it; the owner of “WildMex” has placed a lot of work and effort to make mountain bike routes worthwhile. Also, you can rent the bikes there, check it out in our directory…

– Snorkeling it’s best near playa Los Muertos where it’s usually more calmed waters. – You could rent ATV’s or Golf Cart to get around.
– Or maybe go sailing in a catamaran?
– Yoga Class or gym.

– Shopping & Art.
– Remember, ask for anything at our front desk

Eating and Restaurants:

All right, here is where it comes interesting right!? We know you want to go out and try… And personally, I think that we are blessed with the amazing opportunities for eating here in Sayulita; most of the places are either good or very good. No need to talk about every single place, but we will get into what we think its necessary to mention, and the order of appearance does not have anything to do with favoritism; I will try to be objective… Please advise this list is for places to go to, we have a different section for “home” delivery.

BREAKFAST:

– Yah Yha!: It’s a very good breakfast with great service and a must go in your stay in Sayulita, it’s probably one of the least famous breakfast of Sayulita, and there is no reasons to it. Also it has air conditioning and terrace.
– Don Pedro’s: Its right in front of the beach, they also serve good fancy dinner but their breakfast it’s good and yet not very famous… It’s always nice to have breakfast right by the water.
– Carnes Prieto’s: It’s simple beef tacos or quesadillas with a good meet. – Tierra Viva: Nice Mexican breakfast.
– Paninno’s: has probably the best benedict eggs and French toast.
– Expresso Cafe: Very traditional breakfast right on the corner of the plaza.

LUNCH:

– Bar la Isla: It’s by the beach with nice burgers and nachos, right in front of the left surf break. And they have umbrellas by the beach.
– Aloha: It’s a local’s place with good ceviche and close to the beach.
– Alas Blancas: It’s in front of the beach and has nice meals, I like the burritos a lot!
– Ruben’s: Nice Sandwich or salads for a very good price.
– El Break: Right in front of the beach, I recommend the rice bowl with shrimp and good beer.

D I N N E R :

– Rústica: Its very nice and beautiful, right in town, many waiters with great fast service, the Mexican Pizza it’s their strongest but their menu has from salads to steaks… Also, they make Great Margaritas of many different recipes; and they have a nice bar too. Owned by a local family
– Mama Mia: If what you want is very good pasta for a good price… This is your place, the owner it’s always there, it’s a small place but cozy, good beer and wine. Special’s here are well worth it.
– Pizza Venezia: What can I say, it’s one of those places where the name of the restaurant its VERY accurate… Great pizza for a good price, they also serve pasta’s and it’s close to Casablanca; one of the first’s restaurant’s that you would see on your way to town.
– Leda: Guess what, it is Italian too… but more gourmet, maybe for a romantic dinner?
– Tierra Viva: has a very nice dinner and very tasty, a little hidden but great service and food.

Bars and Night Life:

It is our recommendation to always be accompanied by one person of your trust if you are going rough on the party… There are many bars from live music to calm bars with quality craft beer; the order of appearance goes probably by recommendation hours or intensity.

– Going from Casablanca towards town, before the river but in the same street you can find very good quality craft beer on tap; usually more than 8 different ones, some are even made with volcanic water from Colima. These beer’s you can also be bought at our front desk here in Casablanca…
– Rústica: It’s a restaurant with a nice bar area; greatly known by it’s Margarita’s by mike’s recipes… The one I like the most it’s “Mike’s margarita with 5 chili’s”.
– Don Pedro’s: there it’s salsa night every Monday, well worth it.
– La Cava: It’s one of those hidden little places worth checking out, it’s more like a tavern…
– Yam Bak: Long night bar with many locals and good music.

Please, always stay in control…
